Medicine overview
Tocin 80 Mg Injection is a prescription aminoglycoside antibiotic containing 80 mg of tobramycin in a 2 mL vial. It is used for serious bacterial infections when the infecting organism is susceptible to tobramycin. The medicine may be administered into a muscle or by intravenous infusion. Because systemic tobramycin can affect kidney function and hearing or balance, treatment requires appropriate clinical supervision and laboratory monitoring.
What it is used for
Tobramycin injection is used for serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Established uses include bloodstream infections, lower respiratory tract infections, meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, infections involving skin or bone, and complicated or recurrent urinary tract infections. Culture and susceptibility results should be considered when available because tobramycin does not work against every bacterial strain and should not be used for viral infections.
How it works
Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It acts inside susceptible bacterial cells by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis, preventing the bacteria from making proteins needed for normal function and survival. Its action is bactericidal, meaning it kills susceptible bacteria rather than simply slowing their growth. Activity includes several clinically important Gram-negative organisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as certain other susceptible bacteria.
How it is taken
Tocin 80 Mg Injection is given by the intramuscular or intravenous route under medical supervision. The required amount and administration schedule depend on factors such as the infection, body weight, kidney function and measured tobramycin concentrations. For intravenous administration, tobramycin injection must be appropriately diluted and is generally infused rather than given as a direct undiluted IV injection. The solution should be visually checked for particles or discoloration before administration.
Important warnings
Do not use tobramycin in patients with hypersensitivity to tobramycin or other aminoglycosides. Major risks include kidney injury and potentially irreversible hearing or balance damage; risk is increased by renal impairment, high or accumulating blood concentrations, prolonged treatment, dehydration, older age and other nephrotoxic or ototoxic medicines. Avoid concurrent or sequential nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs where possible, and use caution with potent diuretics and neuromuscular-blocking medicines. Aminoglycosides can cause neuromuscular blockade and respiratory paralysis, particularly in susceptible patients such as those with myasthenia gravis. Serious allergic reactions can occur. Severe or persistent watery or bloody diarrhea requires medical assessment because antibiotic-associated C. difficile infection is possible.
Side effects and monitoring
Reported effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fever, lethargy, injection-site pain, rash, itching and urticaria. Serious effects include kidney injury, tinnitus, dizziness or vertigo, irreversible hearing loss, severe allergic reactions, blood-cell abnormalities, electrolyte disturbances, seizures and neuromuscular blockade with respiratory impairment. Seek prompt medical attention for new hearing changes, ringing in the ears, severe dizziness, reduced urine output, breathing difficulty, severe rash or swelling, or persistent watery or bloody diarrhea. Kidney function, urine output, electrolytes and serum tobramycin concentrations should be monitored during systemic treatment; auditory or vestibular monitoring may also be appropriate, particularly in higher-risk patients.
Pregnancy
Tobramycin and other aminoglycosides can cause fetal harm and cross the placenta. Use during pregnancy requires careful medical assessment of the potential benefit and fetal risk. Pregnant patients should be informed of the potential risk to the fetus.
Breastfeeding
Tobramycin has been detected in human milk. Available labeling advises weighing the benefits of breastfeeding against the mother's clinical need for treatment and potential effects on the infant. A breastfed infant should be monitored for loose or bloody stools and candidiasis, such as oral thrush or diaper rash.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature, 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), based on authoritative labeling for equivalent 80 mg/2 mL tobramycin injection solution. Product-specific Tocin labeling also identifies the product as an 80 mg vial.
Frequently asked questions
Can tobramycin injections damage hearing?
Yes. Systemic tobramycin can cause hearing and balance toxicity, and hearing loss may be irreversible. Tell the healthcare team promptly about ringing in the ears, hearing changes, dizziness or vertigo.
Why are blood levels checked during tobramycin treatment?
Blood concentrations may be monitored to keep exposure effective while reducing the risk of kidney and hearing toxicity. Monitoring is especially important when kidney function is impaired or treatment is prolonged.
Why does kidney function need to be checked while receiving Tocin?
Tobramycin is eliminated mainly through the kidneys and can itself cause kidney injury. Reduced kidney function can also allow the medicine to accumulate, increasing toxicity.
Can Tocin 80 Mg Injection be given at home?
Administration should follow the treating healthcare professional's instructions. Intravenous treatment requires appropriate preparation and dilution, and systemic tobramycin requires clinical and laboratory monitoring.
What should I do if I develop ringing in my ears or dizziness during treatment?
Contact the treating healthcare professional promptly. Tinnitus, vertigo and hearing changes can be signs of aminoglycoside ototoxicity and require assessment.
Does Tocin treat colds or other viral infections?
No. Tobramycin is an antibacterial medicine and does not treat viral infections such as the common cold.
Can Cheap Generic Med ship Tocin to the United States?
Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model, with delivery typically estimated at 10–14 business days after dispatch. Customs, prescription and personal-import requirements may apply, and delivery times are not guaranteed.
Will a Cheap Generic Med order have tracking?
Under the standard fulfilment model, tracked international shipping is used and a tracking number should be provided after dispatch. Carrier systems may take 24–72 hours to begin showing movement.
