Medicine overview
Zoldro 4 Mg Injection contains zoledronic acid, a bisphosphonate medicine that reduces excessive breakdown of bone. This 4 mg/vial product is given by intravenous infusion under medical supervision. It is used in adults to help prevent bone complications when cancer has spread to bone and to lower abnormally high blood calcium caused by a tumour. The registered Zoldro product is manufactured by Aspiro Pharma Limited.
What it is used for
Zoldro is used in adults with bone metastases to help prevent skeletal complications such as pathological fractures and other bone-related events. It is also used to treat tumour-induced hypercalcaemia, where cancer causes excessive calcium to be released from bone into the bloodstream. Zoledronic acid 4 mg is also indicated for patients with multiple myeloma and documented bone metastases from solid tumours when used with standard anticancer treatment.
How it works
Zoledronic acid belongs to the bisphosphonate class. It binds strongly to mineralised bone and inhibits osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down old bone. By slowing excessive bone resorption, it reduces the release of calcium from bone and helps limit skeletal damage associated with cancer involving bone. This action explains its role in tumour-induced hypercalcaemia and prevention of complications from bone metastases.
How it is taken
Zoldro is administered only by intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional. The infusion must run for at least 15 minutes; faster administration increases the risk of kidney toxicity. The required dose and treatment interval depend on the indication and renal function. Patients should be adequately hydrated before treatment, and kidney function should be assessed as clinically required. The concentrate must be appropriately diluted for infusion and should not be mixed with calcium-containing or other divalent-cation-containing solutions.
Important warnings
Zoledronic acid can cause clinically significant kidney impairment, particularly with rapid infusion, dehydration, pre-existing renal impairment, or other medicines that can affect the kidneys. Renal function should therefore be assessed before treatment as appropriate. Correct dehydration and clinically significant disturbances of calcium and other minerals before administration. Hypocalcaemia can become severe and may cause muscle spasms, numbness, tingling, or seizures. Osteonecrosis of the jaw has been reported, particularly in cancer patients; dental health should be assessed and necessary preventive dental care considered before treatment, and patients should report jaw pain, swelling, non-healing sores, or loose teeth. Avoid concurrent treatment with another zoledronic-acid product. Serious hypersensitivity reactions and atypical femoral fractures can occur.
Side effects and monitoring
Commonly reported effects include fever and other acute-phase symptoms such as flu-like illness, chills, fatigue, bone or muscle pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite, anaemia, and changes in blood mineral levels. Serious or less common problems include renal impairment, severe hypocalcaemia, osteonecrosis of the jaw, severe allergic reactions, eye inflammation, and atypical femoral fractures. Kidney function, serum calcium and other relevant electrolytes should be monitored as clinically appropriate. Seek prompt medical attention for reduced urine output, severe weakness or muscle spasms, breathing difficulty or swelling suggesting an allergic reaction, persistent jaw symptoms, or new unexplained thigh or groin pain.
Pregnancy
Zoldro should not be used during pregnancy. Zoledronic acid may cause fetal harm because bisphosphonates affect bone and calcium metabolism. Patients who could become pregnant should discuss effective contraception and pregnancy planning with their healthcare professional.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Zoldro. It is not established whether zoledronic acid passes into human milk, and the product information advises against use during breastfeeding.
Food and drink
Zoldro is administered intravenously, so food does not affect how the dose is taken. Adequate hydration is important before treatment unless fluid intake must be restricted for another medical reason.
Storage
The unopened Zoldro vial does not require specific storage conditions according to the registered patient leaflet. After dilution, the infusion solution should be used immediately to reduce the risk of microbial contamination. Keep the medicine out of the reach and sight of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the pack.
Frequently asked questions
Will I feel unwell after my first zoledronic acid infusion?
Flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, tiredness, and muscle or bone pain can occur after zoledronic acid, particularly following an initial infusion. Tell your healthcare team if symptoms are severe, persistent, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
Why does my dentist need to know that I receive Zoldro?
Zoledronic acid is associated with osteonecrosis of the jaw, a rare but potentially serious problem involving damaged jawbone. Tell your dentist that you receive zoledronic acid before dental treatment, particularly if an extraction or other invasive procedure is being considered.
Do I need to drink extra water before a Zoldro infusion?
Adequate hydration is generally important before zoledronic acid administration. Your healthcare team should determine what is appropriate if you have heart, kidney, or other conditions that require fluid restriction.
Why are kidney tests done before zoledronic acid treatment?
Zoledronic acid can impair kidney function. Checking serum creatinine and renal function helps clinicians determine whether treatment or dose adjustment is appropriate and identify patients at increased risk.
How long does a Zoldro infusion take?
The zoledronic acid dose must be infused intravenously over at least 15 minutes. It should be administered by a healthcare professional rather than self-injected.
Can I have dental work while receiving Zoldro?
Tell both your treating clinician and dentist before invasive dental treatment. Because osteonecrosis of the jaw can occur with zoledronic acid, dental problems and planned procedures need individual assessment rather than changing or delaying treatment without medical guidance.
Why can Zoldro lower my calcium level?
Zoledronic acid slows the release of calcium from bone by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone breakdown. Clinically important hypocalcaemia can occur, so calcium and other minerals may need monitoring and supplementation may be prescribed when appropriate.
Does Cheap Generic Med provide tracking for international Zoldro orders?
Under the standard international fulfilment model, tracked shipping is used and a tracking number should be provided after dispatch. Carrier systems may take 24-72 hours to begin displaying movement.
Is Zoldro sent in discreet packaging by Cheap Generic Med?
Under the standard store policy, international orders use plain outer packaging without medicine details or pharmacy branding visible on the outside. Product-specific transport requirements still take priority where applicable.
