Medicine overview

Risofos 35 mg Tablet contains risedronate, a medicine from the bisphosphonate class used to manage osteoporosis. Cipla identifies RISOFOS as a risedronate product, and the 35 mg strength corresponds to an established once-weekly risedronate regimen for osteoporosis. Risedronate slows the loss of bone caused by excessive bone breakdown. This helps preserve bone density and reduces the likelihood of osteoporosis-related fractures when treatment is used appropriately.

What it is used for

Risofos 35 mg is used for osteoporosis. Risedronate 35 mg once weekly is an established regimen for treating and preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and for increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Other risedronate strengths and dosing schedules are used for some other indications, so they should not be treated as interchangeable with this 35 mg product.

How it works

Risedronate is a bisphosphonate. It attaches to bone and reduces the activity of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down old bone. By slowing excessive bone resorption, it helps the body's bone-forming processes maintain more bone tissue and improves bone strength over time. This action helps lower the risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis.

How it is taken

Take the tablet by mouth exactly as prescribed. For conventional risedronate tablets, take it after getting out of bed in the morning, at least 30 minutes before the first food, drink, supplement, or other medicine of the day. Swallow the tablet whole while sitting or standing with 180–240 mL of plain water. Do not chew, crush, or suck it, and remain upright for at least 30 minutes afterward. The established osteoporosis regimen for the 35 mg strength is once weekly.

Important warnings

Do not use risedronate in people with hypocalcemia, an allergy to the medicine, certain disorders that delay emptying of the esophagus such as achalasia or stricture, or an inability to sit or stand upright for at least 30 minutes. Low blood calcium should be corrected before treatment. Risedronate can irritate the upper gastrointestinal tract; new or worsening difficulty swallowing, pain on swallowing, chest pain, or severe heartburn needs prompt medical assessment. It is not recommended in severe renal impairment. Osteonecrosis of the jaw and unusual femoral fractures are rare but important risks; report persistent jaw problems or new thigh or groin pain. Calcium, magnesium, iron, aluminium-containing products and antacids can interfere with absorption and should not be taken at the same time.

Side effects and monitoring

Common effects include abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, headache, back pain, and joint or musculoskeletal pain. Less common or serious reactions include inflammation or ulceration of the esophagus, severe bone, muscle or joint pain, eye inflammation, osteonecrosis of the jaw, atypical femoral fracture, severe skin reactions, and serious hypersensitivity reactions. Seek medical attention for difficulty or pain when swallowing, new or worsening chest pain or heartburn, facial swelling or severe rash, eye pain or visual inflammation, persistent jaw symptoms, or new thigh or groin pain. Calcium and vitamin D status, renal function, bone response, and dental health may require assessment according to the patient's clinical circumstances.

Pregnancy

Risedronate should not be used during pregnancy. Available human pregnancy data are inadequate, and animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity. Because bisphosphonates can remain incorporated in bone for a prolonged period, pregnancy or plans for pregnancy should be discussed with the prescriber.

Breastfeeding

Risedronate should not be used while breastfeeding. Available clinical information is limited, and product information advises against use during breastfeeding.

Food, drink and interactions

No specific direct alcohol interaction is established in the cited risedronate information, but drinking large amounts of alcohol should be avoided because excessive alcohol intake can adversely affect bone health and increase osteoporosis risk.

Food and drink

Take conventional risedronate with plain water only and at least 30 minutes before the first food or other drink of the day. Coffee, tea, juice, milk, mineral water, food, calcium supplements, iron, magnesium, aluminium-containing products, and antacids can reduce absorption if taken too close to the dose. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything other than plain water, or taking other oral medicines.

Storage

Store at controlled room temperature, generally 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), and keep the medicine out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to take risedronate first thing in the morning?

Food, drinks other than plain water, supplements, and other medicines can substantially interfere with risedronate absorption. Taking it on an empty stomach and waiting at least 30 minutes helps the medicine be absorbed properly.

Why can't I lie down after taking Risofos 35 mg?

Remaining upright for at least 30 minutes helps reduce the risk of the tablet irritating or injuring the esophagus. Take it while sitting or standing and do not return to bed immediately afterward.

What should I do if I forget my weekly risedronate tablet?

For once-weekly risedronate, take one tablet on the morning after you remember, then return to your usual weekly dosing day. Do not take two tablets on the same day.

Can I take calcium or vitamin D with Risofos 35 mg?

Calcium and vitamin D may be needed when dietary intake is inadequate, but calcium must not be taken at the same time as risedronate because it can reduce absorption. Take other oral medicines and supplements only after the required interval.

Should I tell my dentist that I take risedronate?

Yes. Bisphosphonates have been associated with osteonecrosis of the jaw, particularly around invasive dental procedures and in people with additional risk factors. Tell your dentist about risedronate before dental treatment.

Can Risofos 35 mg cause thigh or groin pain?

New or unusual thigh or groin pain should be reported because atypical femoral fractures have rarely occurred with bisphosphonate treatment. A healthcare professional may need to evaluate persistent symptoms.

Can Cheap Generic Med ship Risofos 35 mg internationally?

Cheap Generic Med serves multiple international destinations under its approved shipping model. Delivery estimates depend on the destination, and prescription, customs, and personal-import requirements may also apply.

Will my Risofos order have tracking?

Under the standard Cheap Generic Med fulfilment model, tracked international shipping is used and a tracking number should be provided after dispatch. Carrier systems may take 24–72 hours to begin displaying movement.
