Medicine overview

Balila 25 mg Capsule is an oral prescription medicine containing diazoxide. It is used for certain forms of persistent or symptomatic hypoglycemia, particularly when excessive insulin release causes blood glucose to fall too low. Diazoxide is a non-diuretic benzothiadiazine medicine that raises blood glucose mainly by reducing insulin release from the pancreas. Balila is manufactured by Jolly Healthcare and is intended for use under medical supervision because blood glucose and other clinical parameters require monitoring during treatment.

What it is used for

Balila 25 mg Capsule is used to manage hypoglycemia associated with inappropriate or excessive insulin production. Diazoxide is used in conditions such as persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia and hypoglycemia caused by benign or malignant insulin-secreting pancreatic or extra-pancreatic tumors. The underlying cause of low blood glucose should be established before treatment, and ongoing treatment requires medical monitoring.

How it works

Diazoxide raises blood glucose primarily by inhibiting insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. Insulin normally lowers blood glucose by helping move glucose from the bloodstream into tissues. When excessive insulin production causes recurrent hypoglycemia, reducing insulin secretion can help prevent glucose from falling to abnormally low levels. Diazoxide also has effects outside the pancreas, but suppression of pancreatic insulin release is its main glucose-raising action.

How it is taken

Balila is taken by mouth in the dose and for the duration prescribed by the treating clinician. The manufacturer states that the capsule may be taken with or without food and recommends taking it at a consistent time. Treatment should not be stopped or the dose changed without medical guidance. Diazoxide therapy requires regular assessment of blood glucose and clinical response, particularly when treatment is started and during prolonged use.

Important warnings

Do not use diazoxide if there is hypersensitivity to diazoxide or the product ingredients. Diazoxide can cause sodium and fluid retention and may worsen or precipitate heart failure, particularly in susceptible patients. Severe hyperglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, and hyperosmolar states can occur and require urgent treatment. Important interactions include thiazide diuretics, which can increase its hyperglycemic effect, and vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants, whose plasma levels may increase. Kidney impairment can prolong diazoxide elimination. Blood glucose should be monitored, and prolonged therapy may require blood counts, serum uric acid, electrolytes, and eye monitoring. Thrombocytopenia, pulmonary hypertension in infants and young children, and neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis have been reported. Urgent assessment is needed for severe breathing difficulty, marked swelling, symptoms of very high blood glucose or ketoacidosis, unusual bleeding or purpura, or severe gastrointestinal symptoms in a treated infant.

Side effects and monitoring

Common or clinically important effects include sodium and fluid retention, increased body or facial hair, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, reduced appetite, fast heartbeat, and palpitations. Less common or serious effects include hypotension, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, hyperuricemia, hypokalemia, severe hyperglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar states, pericardial effusion, hypersensitivity reactions, and pulmonary hypertension in infants and children. Blood glucose requires regular monitoring. During prolonged treatment, clinicians may also monitor blood counts, uric acid, electrolytes, fluid status, and the eyes. Seek prompt medical attention for breathing difficulty, significant swelling, severe dehydration, unusual bleeding, or symptoms of severe hyperglycemia.

Pregnancy

Diazoxide crosses the placenta, and animal studies have shown fetal toxicity. Human pregnancy data are limited. Oral diazoxide should generally be used during pregnancy only when the treating specialist determines that the clinical need outweighs potential fetal risk. Maternal cardiovascular monitoring may be required, and newborn blood pressure and blood glucose may need monitoring after maternal exposure.

Breastfeeding

Diazoxide is present in human milk according to current lactation evidence, although available clinical information is limited. Published data suggest relatively low milk exposure at studied maternal doses, but potential effects on a nursing infant remain a consideration. If maternal diazoxide treatment is necessary, the decision about breastfeeding should be made with the treating clinician; monitoring the infant's blood glucose may be advisable, particularly during the newborn period.

Food and drink

Balila 25 mg Capsule may be taken with or without food according to the manufacturer. No specific food or drink restriction for this exact product was reliably verified.

Storage

Store below 30°C.

Frequently asked questions

Why does diazoxide cause extra body or facial hair?

Increased hair growth, or hypertrichosis, is a recognized effect of diazoxide and is reported particularly in children. It is generally reversible after the medicine is discontinued under medical supervision.

Can diazoxide make blood sugar go too high?

Yes. Diazoxide raises blood glucose by reducing insulin release, so excessive hyperglycemia can occur. Blood glucose should be monitored, and extreme thirst, frequent urination, dehydration, vomiting, unusual weakness, or breathing difficulty require prompt medical assessment.

Why can swelling happen while taking Balila?

Diazoxide can cause the body to retain sodium and water. This may lead to swelling and can be particularly important in people with reduced cardiac reserve because fluid retention may worsen heart failure.

Does diazoxide need regular blood tests?

Yes, monitoring is an important part of treatment. Blood glucose is monitored regularly, and prolonged therapy may also require blood counts, serum uric acid, electrolytes, and other clinical checks.

Can Balila 25 mg Capsule be taken with food?

Yes. The manufacturer's product information states that Balila Capsule may be taken with or without food. Follow the administration instructions given by the treating clinician.

What serious symptoms need medical attention while taking diazoxide?

Seek prompt medical attention for severe shortness of breath, substantial swelling, unusual bleeding or purpura, or symptoms suggesting severe hyperglycemia or ketoacidosis such as extreme thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, dehydration, unusual weakness, or breathing difficulty.

Can Balila be stopped once blood sugar readings improve?

Do not stop Balila on your own. Diazoxide controls hypoglycemia associated with excessive insulin production, and stopping treatment without medical guidance may allow low blood glucose to recur.

Can Cheap Generic Med ship Balila to the United States?

Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model. Delivery is typically estimated at 10–14 business days after dispatch, although customs or carrier delays can extend transit; prescription and personal-import requirements may also apply.
