Medicine overview
Ralosto 60 Mg Tablet contains raloxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). Raloxifene acts like estrogen in some tissues while blocking estrogen effects in others. It is used mainly to prevent or treat osteoporosis after menopause, helping maintain bone density and reduce the risk of vertebral fractures. Raloxifene also has approved uses for reducing the risk of invasive breast cancer in certain postmenopausal women. The verified general raloxifene dosage form is a 60 mg oral tablet.
What it is used for
Raloxifene is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. By reducing bone loss, it helps lower the risk of vertebral fractures. It can also reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or are considered at high risk for invasive breast cancer. It should not be used to treat established breast cancer or to prevent recurrence of a previous invasive breast cancer.
How it works
Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator. In bone, it produces estrogen-like effects that reduce bone breakdown and help maintain bone mineral density after menopause. Its effects differ by tissue: in breast tissue, raloxifene blocks some estrogen activity, which helps explain its role in reducing the risk of certain estrogen-sensitive invasive breast cancers. It is not estrogen replacement therapy and does not have the same effects as estrogen in every part of the body.
How it is taken
Raloxifene 60 mg is taken by mouth. The verified general prescribing information specifies one 60 mg tablet once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. Take it according to the prescribed instructions and do not change or stop treatment without medical advice. For osteoporosis, adequate calcium and vitamin D intake should be considered when dietary intake is insufficient.
Important warnings
Raloxifene increases the risk of venous thromboembolism, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, and must not be used in women with an active or previous history of venous thromboembolism, including retinal vein thrombosis. Prolonged immobility further increases clot risk; prescribing information advises stopping raloxifene at least 72 hours before and during prolonged immobilization when possible. An increased risk of death from stroke has been observed in postmenopausal women with documented coronary heart disease or increased risk of major coronary events, so individual stroke risk requires medical assessment. Seek urgent medical attention for unexplained leg swelling or pain, sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, or sudden vision changes. Cholestyramine and similar anion-exchange resins can substantially reduce raloxifene absorption and should not be co-administered. Warfarin or related anticoagulants may require closer prothrombin time/INR monitoring when raloxifene is started or stopped. Concomitant systemic estrogen use is not recommended.
Side effects and monitoring
Common adverse effects include hot flashes, leg cramps, peripheral swelling, flu-like symptoms, joint pain and increased sweating. Serious effects include venous thromboembolism; very rare postmarketing reports include retinal vein occlusion and stroke. Obtain urgent medical attention for swelling, warmth or pain in one leg, sudden chest pain, breathlessness, coughing up blood, or sudden changes in vision. Women using raloxifene for breast-cancer risk reduction should continue appropriate breast examinations and mammography. Patients taking warfarin or related anticoagulants may require closer coagulation monitoring when raloxifene is started or stopped.
Pregnancy
Raloxifene is contraindicated during pregnancy and is not intended for women who can become pregnant. Exposure during pregnancy may cause fetal harm.
Breastfeeding
Raloxifene is not indicated for women of reproductive potential. It is not known whether raloxifene is present in human milk or what effects it may have on a breastfed child or milk production. Based on its mechanism, it may interfere with estrogen-dependent functions of breast tissue during lactation.
Food, drink and interactions
No specific direct alcohol interaction is established in the verified prescribing information reviewed. For people being treated for osteoporosis, avoiding excessive alcohol is advisable because heavy alcohol use can adversely affect bone health.
Food and drink
Raloxifene may be taken with or without food and at any time of day. For osteoporosis prevention or treatment, adequate dietary calcium and vitamin D are important; supplementation may be recommended when dietary intake is inadequate.
Storage
Store raloxifene tablets at controlled room temperature, protected from excessive heat and moisture, and keep them out of reach of children. Product-specific Ralosto storage instructions could not be independently verified from an authoritative manufacturer source.
Frequently asked questions
Do hot flashes get worse when taking raloxifene?
They can. Hot flashes are a recognized common adverse effect of raloxifene and are reported most often during the first months of treatment.
Can raloxifene cause leg cramps or swelling?
Yes. Leg cramps and peripheral swelling are recognized adverse effects. New one-sided leg pain, warmth or swelling needs prompt medical assessment because raloxifene also increases the risk of blood clots.
Does raloxifene improve bone density after menopause?
Raloxifene reduces bone loss and can increase or maintain bone mineral density in postmenopausal women. Its established osteoporosis benefit includes reducing the risk of vertebral fractures.
Does raloxifene cause weight gain?
Weight gain occurred in clinical trials, but the trial data do not establish that every weight change during treatment is caused by raloxifene. Persistent or unexplained changes can be discussed with the prescriber.
Can I take raloxifene with food?
Yes. Raloxifene can be taken with or without food and at any time of day.
Why does raloxifene need to be stopped before prolonged immobility?
Prolonged immobility and raloxifene both increase the risk of venous blood clots. Prescribing information advises discontinuing raloxifene at least 72 hours before and during prolonged immobilization when possible and restarting only after the patient is fully mobile.
Can raloxifene be taken with warfarin?
The combination requires additional monitoring. Prothrombin time or INR should be monitored more closely when raloxifene is started or stopped in someone taking warfarin or another warfarin derivative.
Is raloxifene the same as estrogen replacement therapy?
No. Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator, not estrogen replacement therapy. It has estrogen-like effects in some tissues, such as bone, while blocking estrogen effects in other tissues, including breast tissue.
Is Ralosto 60 Mg Tablet a prescription medicine?
Yes. Raloxifene hydrochloride is listed under Schedule H in India, meaning retail sale requires a prescription from a registered medical practitioner.
Can Cheap Generic Med ship Ralosto to the United States?
Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model, but product-specific availability for Ralosto is NOT VERIFIED. Prescription and personal-import requirements may apply independently of store shipping coverage.
