What it is used for
Tadgo 5 Mg Tablet is used for erectile dysfunction, where a man has difficulty getting or maintaining an erection suitable for sexual activity. Tadalafil 5 mg is also used once daily to treat urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, such as urinary frequency, urgency, or difficulty starting urination. It may be used when ED and BPH occur together.
How it works
Tadalafil blocks phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), an enzyme that breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide increases cGMP in erectile tissue. By slowing its breakdown, tadalafil promotes smooth-muscle relaxation and increased blood flow into the penis, helping an erection develop and persist. Sexual stimulation is still required. Tadalafil also acts on smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder, although the precise mechanism by which it improves BPH symptoms has not been fully established.
How it is taken
Take Tadgo 5 Mg Tablet by mouth exactly as prescribed. Tadalafil may be taken with or without food. When tadalafil 5 mg is prescribed for once-daily treatment of BPH or combined ED and BPH, it is taken at approximately the same time each day. Do not take more than prescribed, and do not combine tadalafil with another tadalafil product or another erectile-dysfunction treatment unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
Important warnings
Do not take tadalafil with nitrates such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide, or with recreational nitrate-containing “poppers,” because the combination can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. It must also not be combined with guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat. Tadalafil is contraindicated in people with serious hypersensitivity to tadalafil. Medical assessment is particularly important for people with cardiovascular disease, low or uncontrolled high blood pressure, kidney or liver impairment, previous serious vision problems, bleeding disorders, penile deformity, or conditions that increase the risk of priapism. Alpha-blockers, blood-pressure medicines and potent CYP3A4 inhibitors can interact with tadalafil. Seek emergency medical care for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, chest pain or significant cardiovascular symptoms during sexual activity. Stop tadalafil and obtain prompt medical attention for sudden loss or marked reduction of vision or hearing.
Side effects and monitoring
Common effects include headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, nasal congestion and flushing. Dizziness, diarrhea, reflux symptoms and pain in the limbs can also occur. Rare but serious problems include prolonged erection or priapism, severe allergic reactions, sudden vision loss and sudden decrease or loss of hearing. Seek urgent medical care for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision or hearing changes, severe allergic symptoms, fainting, or chest pain. People with relevant cardiovascular, kidney or liver conditions may require additional clinical assessment before or during treatment.
Pregnancy
Tadalafil tablets for ED and BPH are not indicated for use in females. There are no adequate human pregnancy data to establish drug-associated developmental risk.
Breastfeeding
Tadalafil tablets for ED and BPH are not indicated for use in females. It is not known whether tadalafil or its metabolites are present in human breast milk or what effects they could have on a breastfed child or milk production.
Food, drink and interactions
Drinking substantial amounts of alcohol while taking tadalafil can increase its blood-pressure-lowering effect and may cause dizziness, headache, a faster heartbeat or fainting. Limiting alcohol is advisable while using tadalafil.
