Medicine overview

Enfenac is identified in Indian pharmaceutical pricing records as nepafenac 0.1% eye drops. Nepafenac is a topical ophthalmic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine.

What it is used for

Used to reduce ocular pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery.

How it works

Nepafenac penetrates the cornea and is converted to amfenac, which inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes and reduces prostaglandin production.

How it is taken

For eye use only. Shake the suspension if directed, avoid touching the dropper tip, remove contact lenses when instructed, and use only for the prescribed duration.

Important warnings

Ophthalmic NSAIDs may delay healing and can cause corneal complications, especially with prolonged use or in high-risk eyes. Report increasing pain, vision changes or signs of infection promptly.

Side effects and monitoring

Possible effects include eye irritation, foreign-body sensation, increased eye pressure, blurred vision and corneal changes. Serious hypersensitivity is uncommon but requires urgent care.

Pregnancy

Use in pregnancy only on specialist advice; NSAID exposure later in pregnancy may pose fetal risks.

Breastfeeding

Discuss use while breastfeeding with the ophthalmic clinician because human data are limited.

Food, drink and interactions

No specific alcohol interaction is expected from ophthalmic use.

Food and drink

Food does not affect ophthalmic administration.

Storage

Store as directed on the supplied label, protect from contamination, and keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
