Medicine overview

Adbrom 5 mL is a prescription ophthalmic medicine containing bromfenac 0.09%. Bromfenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used in the eye to control inflammation and reduce ocular pain associated with cataract surgery. The medicine acts locally by reducing the production of prostaglandins, chemicals involved in pain and inflammation. Adbrom is supplied as an ophthalmic solution for instillation into the affected eye and should be used according to the directions provided by the prescribing eye specialist.

What it is used for

Adbrom is used to manage inflammation and eye pain associated with cataract surgery. Bromfenac 0.09% ophthalmic solution is an NSAID formulation intended to reduce the inflammatory response within the eye during the postoperative period. It is not an antibiotic and should not be regarded as treatment for an eye infection.

How it works

Bromfenac inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes, commonly called COX-1 and COX-2. These enzymes participate in the production of prostaglandins, substances that contribute to inflammation and pain in the eye. By reducing prostaglandin synthesis, bromfenac decreases the inflammatory response following cataract surgery and helps reduce postoperative ocular discomfort.

How it is taken

Adbrom is applied directly to the affected eye. Wash your hands before use and avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye, fingers, or other surfaces. Use the number of drops and treatment duration prescribed by the eye specialist. Bromfenac 0.09% formulations may have product-specific dosing schedules, so the prescribed instructions for Adbrom should be followed rather than substituting directions from another bromfenac product. If other topical eye medicines are being used, authoritative bromfenac labeling advises separating them by at least 5 minutes.

Important warnings

Bromfenac and other topical ophthalmic NSAIDs can slow or delay healing; using a topical corticosteroid at the same time can further increase this risk. Cross-sensitivity can occur in people who have reacted to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Ophthalmic NSAIDs may increase bleeding of eye tissues, so caution is required in people with bleeding tendencies or medicines that prolong bleeding. Serious corneal complications, including keratitis, epithelial breakdown, thinning, erosion, ulceration, and perforation, have been reported. Risk may be higher with diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, dry-eye or other ocular-surface disease, corneal problems, complicated eye surgery, or repeated eye operations. Seek prompt ophthalmic assessment for worsening eye pain, marked redness, vision changes, or signs of corneal injury. Do not allow the bottle tip to touch the eye or other surfaces, and do not administer bromfenac while wearing contact lenses.

Side effects and monitoring

Commonly reported effects with bromfenac 0.09% ophthalmic solution include abnormal eye sensation, conjunctival redness, irritation or burning/stinging, eye pain, itching, headache, and inflammation of the iris. Serious or less common post-marketing reactions include corneal erosion, thinning, epithelial breakdown, and corneal perforation. Allergic reactions and bleeding within the eye can also occur. Contact the prescribing clinician promptly for persistent or worsening pain or inflammation. Urgent assessment is appropriate for significant visual changes, breathing or swallowing difficulty, marked swelling or hives, or symptoms suggesting serious corneal injury.

Pregnancy

Human pregnancy data are inadequate. Bromfenac ophthalmic solution should be used during pregnancy only when the expected benefit justifies the potential fetal risk. Because NSAID inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis can affect the fetal cardiovascular system, bromfenac ophthalmic use should be avoided during late pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

Caution is advised during breastfeeding. Published lactation information indicates that adverse effects in a breastfed infant are not expected from maternal use of bromfenac eye drops because systemic exposure from ophthalmic administration is low, although direct milk-level data are limited. Pressing gently over the tear duct after applying the drops can further reduce systemic absorption.

Food and drink

No special dietary restriction is generally required for ophthalmic bromfenac unless the prescriber advises otherwise. Because the medicine is administered into the eye rather than taken by mouth, food does not form part of its administration instructions.

Storage

Store bromfenac 0.09% ophthalmic solution at 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Keep the container properly closed and protect the dropper tip from contamination.

Frequently asked questions

Can bromfenac eye drops sting when I put them in?

Yes. Temporary burning or stinging and other eye irritation have been reported with bromfenac 0.09% ophthalmic solution. Contact your eye specialist if irritation is severe, persistent, or accompanied by worsening pain or vision changes.

Can I wear contact lenses while using Adbrom?

Do not administer bromfenac while wearing contact lenses. Follow your eye specialist's instructions about when contact-lens wear can safely resume after cataract surgery.

Can I use Adbrom with my other eye drops?

Bromfenac can be used with some other topical eye medicines when prescribed. Authoritative labeling recommends leaving at least 5 minutes between different ophthalmic medicines.

What should I do if my eye pain gets worse while using bromfenac?

Contact your eye specialist promptly. Topical NSAIDs can rarely cause serious corneal problems, particularly in people with certain ocular conditions or after complicated or repeated eye surgery.

Does Adbrom treat an eye infection?

No. Bromfenac is an NSAID that reduces inflammation and pain; it is not an antibiotic and does not treat a bacterial eye infection.

Can I stop the drops once my eye feels better?

Follow the treatment duration prescribed by your eye specialist. Do not shorten or extend postoperative bromfenac treatment on your own because the duration of topical NSAID treatment can affect both effectiveness and corneal safety.

Can Cheap Generic Med ship Adbrom internationally?

Cheap Generic Med serves its approved international destinations, but shipping availability does not establish that personal import is lawful in a particular country. Customs, prescription, and import requirements can vary by destination and individual circumstances.

Will my Cheap Generic Med order have tracking?

Tracked international shipping is used under the standard fulfilment model. A tracking number should be provided after dispatch, although carrier systems can take 24-72 hours to begin showing movement.
