Medicine overview

Acnomycin 50 Capsule contains 50 mg of minocycline, a tetracycline-class antibiotic. It is used for susceptible bacterial infections and may also be prescribed for acne. Minocycline works by stopping susceptible bacteria from making proteins needed for growth. Acnomycin is an oral capsule marketed by Remedial Healthcare and is a prescription medicine. Antibiotics such as minocycline should be used only for appropriate bacterial infections and according to the prescribed course.

What it is used for

Acnomycin 50 Capsule may be prescribed for bacterial infections caused by organisms susceptible to minocycline. Minocycline also has an established role as an oral antibiotic for acne vulgaris. Current acne guidance recommends limiting systemic antibiotic treatment where possible and using systemic antibiotics with appropriate topical acne therapy rather than as antibiotic monotherapy.

How it works

Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic with mainly bacteriostatic activity, meaning it stops susceptible bacteria from multiplying rather than relying on directly killing them. It binds to bacterial ribosomes and interferes with protein production that bacteria need for growth and normal cellular functions. This suppresses susceptible organisms and allows the infection to be controlled. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects also contribute to its use in acne treatment.

How it is taken

Take Acnomycin 50 Capsule by mouth exactly as prescribed. Minocycline capsules can be taken with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with an adequate amount of fluid to reduce the risk of irritation or ulceration of the esophagus. Antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium and iron-containing products can reduce tetracycline absorption, so discuss appropriate separation with a doctor or pharmacist. Do not create or change a dosing schedule without medical guidance.

Important warnings

Do not use minocycline if you have had a hypersensitivity reaction to minocycline, another tetracycline, or the product ingredients. Minocycline can cause fetal harm and permanent tooth discoloration during tooth development; use in children under 8 years is generally avoided unless expected benefits outweigh the risks. Important risks include intracranial hypertension, severe skin or hypersensitivity reactions including DRESS and Stevens-Johnson syndrome, liver injury, photosensitivity, C. difficile-associated diarrhea, and dizziness or vertigo. Seek prompt medical attention for severe rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty, persistent or bloody diarrhea, jaundice, or a severe headache with blurred/double vision or other visual changes. Avoid concurrent isotretinoin because both medicines are associated with intracranial hypertension. Minocycline can also interact with anticoagulants, penicillins, antacids containing aluminum/calcium/magnesium, iron preparations, and ergot alkaloids.

Side effects and monitoring

Common or clinically recognized effects include nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness and vertigo. Photosensitivity can cause an exaggerated sunburn reaction. Less common but serious reactions include severe allergy, serious skin reactions, liver injury or autoimmune hepatitis, blood-cell disorders, intracranial hypertension, C. difficile-associated diarrhea, lupus-like reactions and abnormal pigmentation. Seek medical attention for severe rash, breathing difficulty, jaundice, persistent watery or bloody diarrhea, or headache accompanied by blurred vision, double vision or vision loss. Kidney function monitoring may be required in renal impairment, and prolonged therapy may require additional clinical or laboratory monitoring.

Pregnancy

Minocycline can cause fetal harm. Tetracycline-class medicines can also affect developing teeth and bones; exposure during tooth development may cause permanent yellow-gray-brown tooth discoloration. If pregnancy occurs during treatment, contact the prescribing clinician promptly.

Breastfeeding

Minocycline/tetracyclines are excreted into human milk. Official prescribing information advises that, because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in a nursing infant, a decision should be made with a healthcare professional whether to discontinue breastfeeding or discontinue the medicine, taking the importance of treatment to the mother into account.

Food and drink

Minocycline capsules may be taken with or without food. A high-fat meal that included dairy products did not reduce the extent of absorption in pharmacokinetic testing, although absorption was delayed slightly. Take the capsule with adequate fluid to reduce esophageal irritation. Antacids containing aluminum, calcium or magnesium and iron-containing preparations can impair tetracycline absorption.

Storage

Store below 30°C.

Frequently asked questions

How long does minocycline take to start helping acne?

Improvement is not necessarily immediate. Acne treatment is generally assessed over several weeks, and current guidance recommends reviewing first-line treatment at about 12 weeks rather than changing treatment based on the first few days.

Can minocycline make me dizzy?

Yes. Dizziness, lightheadedness and vertigo are recognized effects of minocycline. Avoid driving or hazardous activities if these symptoms occur.

Can I take Acnomycin 50 Capsule with food or dairy products?

Minocycline capsules can be taken with or without food, and a studied high-fat meal containing dairy did not reduce the overall extent of absorption. Take the capsule with plenty of fluid.

What should I do if I develop a bad headache or blurred vision while taking minocycline?

Seek prompt medical assessment. Minocycline has been associated with intracranial hypertension, which can cause headache, blurred or double vision and, rarely, permanent visual loss.

Can I take isotretinoin while taking Acnomycin?

Concurrent use should be avoided. Both isotretinoin and minocycline are associated with intracranial hypertension.

Does minocycline make skin more sensitive to sunlight?

It can. Photosensitivity with an exaggerated sunburn reaction has been reported with minocycline and other tetracyclines, so unnecessary or prolonged sun exposure should be limited and appropriate sun protection used.

Can Cheap Generic Med ship Acnomycin 50 Capsule to the United States?

Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model. Delivery is typically estimated at 10–14 business days after dispatch, but customs or carrier delays can extend transit; prescription and personal-import requirements may also apply.

Will my Cheap Generic Med order have tracking?

Tracked international shipping is used under the standard fulfilment model. A tracking number should be provided after dispatch, although carrier systems may take 24–72 hours to begin showing movement.
