Medicine overview

Abura 250 Mg Tablet is an oral anticancer medicine containing 250 mg of abiraterone acetate. It belongs to a group of medicines called androgen biosynthesis inhibitors and is manufactured by MSN Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. Abiraterone is used as part of treatment for certain forms of metastatic prostate cancer. It reduces production of androgens, hormones such as testosterone that can stimulate prostate cancer growth. Treatment is generally combined with prednisone or prednisolone and ongoing medical or surgical suppression of testosterone.

What it is used for

Abiraterone acetate is used with prednisone or prednisolone to treat metastatic prostate cancer in adult men. Established indications include metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, where the cancer progresses despite testosterone-lowering treatment, and high-risk metastatic hormone-sensitive or castration-sensitive prostate cancer. Patients who have not had surgical removal of the testes generally continue appropriate androgen-deprivation therapy while receiving abiraterone.

How it works

Abiraterone acetate is converted in the body to abiraterone, which blocks the enzyme CYP17 (17α-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase). This enzyme is involved in producing androgens in the testes, adrenal glands and prostate tumour tissue. By inhibiting CYP17, abiraterone substantially reduces androgen production. Because prostate cancer cells can depend on androgen signalling for growth, lowering these hormones helps slow the progression of androgen-sensitive prostate cancer.

How it is taken

Take abiraterone exactly as prescribed as a single daily dose on an empty stomach. Do not eat for at least 2 hours before taking it or for at least 1 hour afterward, because food can greatly increase abiraterone exposure. Swallow the tablets whole with water; do not crush or chew them. Abiraterone is normally given with prednisone or prednisolone. Patients who have not undergone bilateral orchiectomy generally continue a GnRH analogue. Do not change or stop abiraterone or the accompanying corticosteroid without medical guidance.

Important warnings

Abiraterone can cause high blood pressure, low blood potassium and fluid retention because it increases mineralocorticoid activity. Blood pressure, potassium and signs of fluid retention require monitoring, with particular caution in people with cardiovascular disease. Serious liver injury can occur, so liver function must be checked before and during treatment. Adrenal insufficiency may develop, particularly if corticosteroid treatment is interrupted or during infection or physical stress. Severe hypoglycaemia has been reported in patients with diabetes taking certain glucose-lowering medicines. Strong CYP3A4 inducers can reduce abiraterone exposure and should generally be avoided. Abiraterone plus prednisone/prednisolone should not be combined with radium Ra 223 because increased fractures and mortality have been observed. Report severe weakness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, marked swelling, shortness of breath or symptoms of liver injury promptly.

Side effects and monitoring

Common adverse effects reported with abiraterone treatment include joint pain or swelling, hot flushes, diarrhoea, fluid retention, high blood pressure and low potassium; respiratory infections and urinary tract infections have also been reported in clinical studies. Serious problems can include severe hypokalaemia, abnormal heart rhythm, cardiac failure, adrenal insufficiency, severe liver injury, fractures and severe hypoglycaemia in susceptible patients. Seek medical attention for fainting, irregular heartbeat, severe weakness, breathing difficulty, substantial swelling, allergic symptoms, or yellow skin or eyes with dark urine. Blood pressure, serum potassium, fluid retention and liver function should be monitored during treatment; blood glucose also requires attention in patients with diabetes.

Pregnancy

Abiraterone is not indicated for use in women and can cause fetal harm. Women who are pregnant or may be pregnant should not handle broken, crushed or damaged abiraterone tablets without protective gloves. Male patients with female partners of reproductive potential should use effective contraception during treatment and for 3 weeks after the final dose.

Breastfeeding

Abiraterone is not indicated for use in women. There are no adequate clinical data on its presence in human milk or its effects on a breastfed infant. Breastfeeding use is therefore not applicable to the approved male prostate-cancer population.

Food and drink

Abiraterone must be taken on an empty stomach. Food can substantially and unpredictably increase the amount of abiraterone absorbed, potentially increasing adverse effects. Do not eat for at least 2 hours before taking the dose or for at least 1 hour afterward. Swallow the tablets whole with water.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to take abiraterone on an empty stomach?

Food can greatly increase and make unpredictable the amount of abiraterone absorbed into the bloodstream. Take it at least 2 hours after eating and do not eat for at least 1 hour afterward.

Why is prednisone or prednisolone given with abiraterone?

Abiraterone changes steroid-hormone production and can increase mineralocorticoid effects such as high blood pressure, low potassium and fluid retention. The prescribed corticosteroid helps reduce these effects and is part of the established treatment regimen.

What happens if I miss one dose of abiraterone?

If you miss one daily dose, take your usual prescribed dose the following day. Do not take an extra dose to make up for it. If you miss more than one dose, contact your healthcare professional.

What monitoring is needed while taking abiraterone?

Blood pressure, blood potassium and signs of fluid retention should be checked regularly, and liver-function blood tests are required before and during treatment. Additional monitoring may be needed for people with cardiovascular disease or diabetes.

Can abiraterone affect the liver?

Yes. Abiraterone can cause significant and, rarely, severe liver injury. Contact your healthcare professional promptly if you develop yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, marked tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea or pain in the upper-right abdomen.

Can I crush Abura 250 Mg Tablets if they are difficult to swallow?

No. Abiraterone tablets should be swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed or chewed. Pregnant women or women who may be pregnant should also avoid handling broken or damaged tablets without protective gloves.

Can Cheap Generic Med ship Abura 250 Mg Tablet to the United States?

Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model. Delivery is typically estimated at 10–14 business days after dispatch, although customs or carrier delays can extend transit. Prescription and personal-import requirements may apply.

Will my Abura order have tracking?

Under the standard Cheap Generic Med fulfilment model, tracked international shipping is used and a tracking number should be provided after dispatch. New tracking numbers may take 24–72 hours to begin showing movement in the carrier system.
