Medicine overview

Aclovir 400 Mg Tablet DT contains 400 mg of acyclovir, an antiviral medicine used for infections caused by susceptible herpes viruses. The dispersible tablet is taken by mouth and is used for conditions such as genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chickenpox. Acyclovir limits viral multiplication rather than eliminating herpes viruses permanently. Treatment is generally most useful when started promptly as directed by the prescriber.

What it is used for

Aclovir 400 Mg Tablet DT is used to treat susceptible infections caused by herpes simplex and varicella-zoster viruses. These include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chickenpox. Acyclovir can also be prescribed as suppressive treatment for recurrent herpes simplex infections in appropriate patients. It controls viral replication and can reduce the severity or duration of an outbreak, but it does not cure latent herpes infection.

How it works

Acyclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue antiviral. In virus-infected cells, it is converted to its active form and interferes with viral DNA polymerase, an enzyme the virus needs to copy its genetic material. This inhibits further viral DNA synthesis and limits replication of susceptible herpes viruses. The medicine therefore helps control an active infection, although dormant herpes virus can remain in the body and may reactivate later.

How it is taken

Take Aclovir 400 Mg Tablet DT exactly as prescribed. As a dispersible tablet, it can be dispersed in water before administration; general acyclovir guidance also permits some dispersible tablets to be swallowed with water. It may be taken with or without food. Maintain adequate fluid intake during treatment, particularly if there is a risk of kidney problems. Do not change the prescribed dose, frequency, or treatment duration without medical advice.

Important warnings

Do not use acyclovir if you have had a serious hypersensitivity reaction to acyclovir, valacyclovir, or relevant formulation ingredients. Kidney impairment can increase acyclovir exposure and may require dose adjustment; dehydration and medicines that can damage the kidneys can further increase renal risk. Maintain adequate hydration. Serious neurological reactions, kidney dysfunction, and severe skin reactions have been reported. Seek urgent medical attention for markedly reduced urination, severe confusion, hallucinations, seizures, or a severe or blistering rash. Acyclovir does not cure genital herpes or guarantee prevention of transmission; herpes can be transmitted even when symptoms are absent.

Side effects and monitoring

Common effects of oral acyclovir can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and general gastrointestinal discomfort. Less common but clinically important reactions include kidney dysfunction, neurological effects such as confusion, hallucinations or seizures, severe allergic reactions, and serious skin reactions. Seek prompt medical attention for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, a severe blistering rash, seizures, pronounced confusion, or significantly reduced urine output. Kidney function may require closer attention in people with renal impairment, older adults, dehydrated patients, or those taking potentially nephrotoxic medicines.

Pregnancy

Acyclovir may be used during pregnancy when clinically appropriate, but treatment should be discussed with a healthcare professional. Available pregnancy experience has not identified a clear increase in birth defects, although prescribing information recommends weighing the expected benefit against potential fetal risk.

Breastfeeding

Acyclovir passes into breast milk after oral administration. Breastfeeding patients should tell their healthcare professional before taking oral acyclovir. Published clinical guidance generally allows acyclovir when appropriate during breastfeeding, but individual circumstances should be considered.

Food, drink and interactions

Alcohol is not known to have a specific interaction with acyclovir, and normal alcohol consumption is not specifically prohibited in general clinical guidance. Maintaining adequate hydration is important while taking oral acyclovir.

Food and drink

Acyclovir can be taken with or without food. Drink adequate water during treatment, especially if you have kidney problems or are at risk of dehydration. No special diet is generally required.

Storage

Store below 30°C. Keep the medicine in its original packaging and out of the reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Does acyclovir completely get rid of herpes?

No. Acyclovir reduces replication of herpes viruses and helps control outbreaks, but it does not remove latent herpes virus from the body, so infections can recur.

Should I start acyclovir as soon as a herpes outbreak begins?

Treatment is generally most effective when started promptly as prescribed. For recurrent genital herpes, prescribing information advises beginning treatment at the first signs or symptoms of an episode.

Can I take Aclovir 400 Mg Tablet DT with food?

Yes. Oral acyclovir can generally be taken with or without food. Maintain adequate fluid intake while taking it.

Why do I need to drink plenty of water while taking acyclovir?

Adequate hydration helps reduce the risk of acyclovir-related kidney problems. This is particularly important for people with impaired kidney function or an increased risk of dehydration.

Can acyclovir stop me from passing genital herpes to someone else?

No guarantee can be made. Acyclovir is not a cure and herpes can still be transmitted, including during periods without visible symptoms; avoid sexual contact when lesions or other outbreak symptoms are present.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose when you remember unless it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue the prescribed schedule; do not take a double dose.

Can Cheap Generic Med ship Aclovir to the United States?

Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model. Delivery is typically estimated at 10-14 business days after dispatch, but customs or carrier delays can extend transit; prescription and personal-import requirements may also apply.

Will my Cheap Generic Med order have tracking?

Tracked international shipping is used under the standard fulfilment model. A tracking number should be provided after dispatch, although it may take 24-72 hours before movement appears in the carrier system.
