Medicine overview
Abex-IT 20mg/150mg Tablet is an oral combination medicine containing rabeprazole 20 mg and itopride 150 mg. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid, while itopride is a prokinetic medicine that promotes movement of the upper digestive tract. The combination is used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where reducing acid and improving stomach movement can help control reflux-related symptoms.
What it is used for
Abex-IT is used for gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly called acid reflux. GERD occurs when stomach contents repeatedly flow back into the oesophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn and regurgitation. Rabeprazole reduces the amount of acid available to irritate the oesophagus, while itopride promotes gastrointestinal movement and gastric emptying.
How it works
Rabeprazole blocks the gastric H+/K+-ATPase, often called the proton pump, in acid-producing stomach cells. This suppresses the final step of gastric acid secretion. Itopride increases acetylcholine activity by blocking dopamine D2 receptors and inhibiting acetylcholinesterase; this promotes gastrointestinal movement and gastric emptying. Together, these actions address excess acid and impaired upper-gut motility, two factors that can contribute to reflux symptoms.
How it is taken
Take Abex-IT by mouth exactly as prescribed. Do not substitute administration directions from a different rabeprazole-itopride strength, capsule, or release formulation; follow the instructions supplied with the medicine or by the prescribing clinician.
Important warnings
Do not use the medicine if you have had a serious allergic reaction to rabeprazole, itopride, substituted benzimidazoles, or other product ingredients. Rabeprazole is contraindicated with rilpivirine-containing medicines. Important interactions include warfarin, digoxin and high-dose methotrexate; anticholinergic medicines can reduce itopride's gastrointestinal-motility effect. Proton pump inhibitors can rarely cause acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, persistent Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhoea, severe skin reactions, lupus-like reactions, low magnesium and other mineral disturbances, vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged treatment, fractures with high-dose or long-term use, and fundic-gland polyps. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, a severe or blistering rash, persistent severe diarrhoea, or signs of liver injury such as jaundice.
Side effects and monitoring
Common or reported effects include diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, nausea, flatulence, dizziness and increased salivation. Serious or less common effects include anaphylaxis, liver dysfunction or jaundice, severe skin reactions, acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, significant electrolyte disturbances and persistent C. difficile-associated diarrhoea. Seek medical attention promptly for severe allergy symptoms, jaundice, a serious rash, persistent watery diarrhoea or unexplained symptoms suggesting kidney problems. With prolonged PPI treatment, clinicians may consider magnesium monitoring, particularly when other medicines can lower magnesium; INR monitoring is important when rabeprazole is used with warfarin.
Pregnancy
Use during pregnancy only after a clinician has assessed the expected benefit and potential risk. Human pregnancy data for rabeprazole are insufficient to define drug-associated risk. The official itopride information advises use in pregnancy or possible pregnancy only when the therapeutic benefit is judged to outweigh the risk; animal studies showed transfer to the fetus.
Breastfeeding
Discuss breastfeeding with the prescriber before using this combination. Human studies have not established whether rabeprazole passes into breast milk, although it is present in rat milk. Itopride has also been detected in animal milk, and its official information recommends weighing the benefits of treatment against the benefits of breastfeeding when deciding whether breastfeeding should continue.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I still having reflux symptoms while taking rabeprazole and itopride?
Symptoms do not always disappear immediately, and persistent symptoms can have several causes. Rabeprazole suppresses stomach acid, but an inadequate response or early return of symptoms should be reviewed by the prescriber rather than treated by changing the dose yourself.
Can rabeprazole and itopride cause headaches or stomach upset?
Yes. Headache, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, constipation and nausea are among reported adverse effects of one or both ingredients. Seek medical advice if symptoms are severe, persistent or accompanied by warning signs such as jaundice, severe diarrhoea or an allergic reaction.
Does itopride help with bloating or feeling full after meals?
Itopride promotes stomach movement and gastric emptying, which can help gastrointestinal symptoms associated with impaired upper-gut motility. Whether this combination is appropriate for a particular symptom should be determined by the prescriber.
Can I take Abex-IT for a long time?
Only for the duration recommended by the prescriber. Long-term PPI exposure is associated with risks including mineral disturbances, vitamin B12 deficiency, fractures and fundic-gland polyps, while official itopride information advises against continuing treatment indefinitely when gastrointestinal symptoms are not improving.
Can Abex-IT be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Only after medical assessment. Human pregnancy and breastfeeding information is limited, and itopride's official information recommends weighing treatment benefit against possible pregnancy or breastfeeding risks.
Can Cheap Generic Med ship Abex-IT to the United States?
Cheap Generic Med serves the United States under its international shipping model. Delivery is typically estimated at 10–14 business days after dispatch, although customs or carrier delays can extend transit; prescription and personal-import requirements may also apply.
How long does Cheap Generic Med delivery to the UK usually take?
UK delivery is typically estimated at 10–14 business days after dispatch. This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed arrival date, and customs or local postal processing may extend delivery.
Will I receive tracking for an Abex-IT order?
Tracked international shipping is used under the standard fulfilment model. A tracking number should be provided after dispatch, although carrier systems may take 24–72 hours to begin showing movement.
