Medicine overview
Aarzole 20 mg Capsule is an oral medicine containing 20 mg of rabeprazole. The product is manufactured by Aarohi Pharmaceuticals Ltd and supplied as capsules in a strip of 10.
Rabeprazole belongs to the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) class. These medicines reduce the production of stomach acid and are used for acid-related conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, and conditions associated with excessive acid secretion.
What it is used for
Rabeprazole is used to manage symptomatic GERD and to help heal acid-related injury to the oesophagus. It is also indicated for healing duodenal ulcers and treating pathological acid hypersecretion, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In appropriate combination regimens, rabeprazole is used with antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence.

How it works
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It suppresses stomach-acid production by inhibiting the gastric proton pump in acid-producing parietal cells of the stomach. Lowering acid levels reduces irritation caused by acid reflux and provides an environment in which acid-related damage to the oesophagus or duodenum can heal. This acid-suppressing action also helps control excessive secretion in conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
How it is taken
Take Aarzole orally exactly as prescribed. General rabeprazole administration depends on the indication: authoritative labeling states that rabeprazole is taken after a meal for duodenal ulcer treatment and with food when used in the H. pylori eradication regimen; for other listed indications it may be taken with or without food. Do not create or change a treatment schedule without medical guidance.

Important warnings
Do not use rabeprazole if you have had a serious hypersensitivity reaction to rabeprazole or another substituted benzimidazole. Rabeprazole is contraindicated with rilpivirine-containing medicines. Important interactions include high-dose methotrexate, warfarin, digoxin, tacrolimus, and medicines whose absorption depends on stomach acidity. PPIs can rarely cause acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, severe persistent C. difficile-associated diarrhoea, severe skin reactions, and lupus. Longer-term or high-dose treatment may be associated with fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium or other mineral abnormalities, and fundic gland polyps. Seek prompt medical attention for severe rash or blistering, facial or throat swelling, persistent severe diarrhoea, or symptoms suggesting a serious allergic reaction.
Side effects and monitoring
Common or reported effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, gas, abdominal discomfort, dizziness, and sore throat.
Serious or less common problems include acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, severe skin reactions, C. difficile-associated diarrhoea, lupus, blood-cell abnormalities, jaundice, anaphylaxis, angioedema, vitamin B12 deficiency, and electrolyte abnormalities including hypomagnesemia. With prolonged treatment, clinicians may consider magnesium monitoring, particularly in people taking digoxin, diuretics, or other medicines that can lower magnesium. Seek medical attention for persistent diarrhoea, severe skin reactions, swelling or breathing difficulty, or other severe or unusual symptoms.
Pregnancy
Human pregnancy data for rabeprazole are insufficient to determine a drug-associated risk. Animal studies did not show adverse developmental effects at specified exposures during organ development, but this does not establish safety in human pregnancy. Use during pregnancy should therefore be discussed with the prescribing healthcare professional.

Breastfeeding
It is not known whether rabeprazole is present in human breast milk, affects a breastfed infant, or affects milk production because adequate human lactation studies have not been conducted. The benefits of breastfeeding and the mother's clinical need for treatment should be considered together with potential risks to the infant.

Food and drink
For rabeprazole delayed-release tablets, food instructions depend on the indication. Authoritative labeling specifies administration after a meal for duodenal ulcers and with food when used in the H. pylori eradication regimen; other listed indications permit administration with or without food.

Frequently asked questions
Can rabeprazole be used for a long time?
Some conditions require longer-term proton pump inhibitor treatment, but duration should be periodically reviewed by the prescriber. Prolonged PPI use is associated with specific risks, including vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, fractures, and fundic gland polyps, so appropriate monitoring may be needed.
What should I do if I miss a dose of rabeprazole?
Take the missed dose when you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case, skip it and return to the usual schedule; do not take two doses at the same time.
Can I stop rabeprazole when my reflux feels better?
Do not stop prescribed rabeprazole solely because symptoms have improved without discussing the treatment plan with your healthcare professional. The required treatment duration depends on the condition being treated.
Does rabeprazole have to be taken with food?
It depends on the indication and formulation. Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are taken after a meal for duodenal ulcers and with food as part of the specified H. pylori regimen, while other listed indications allow administration with or without food; exact instructions for the Aarzole capsule formulation are NOT VERIFIED.
What serious side effects should I watch for?
Seek medical attention for a severe or blistering skin rash, swelling or breathing difficulty, persistent severe diarrhoea, or other signs of a serious reaction. PPIs can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, kidney inflammation, severe skin reactions, and C. difficile-associated diarrhoea.
